The team that found Oko-Ghanie now works for Liberty
The geology team behind G2 Goldfields’ Oko-Ghanie discovery, led by G2’s former Vice President Exploration Boaz Wade, has joined Liberty Metals’ exploration team in Guyana. They took Oko-Ghanie from a greenfields target to a 3.5Moz resource in about five years, on ground that directly abuts Liberty’s Oko North block.

Who has joined
The group joins as a technical consulting team and will work across Liberty’s Guyanese projects, including Oko North and Oko South, alongside the Company’s recently appointed Exploration Manager, Finlay Goodwin.
Boaz Wade, former VP Exploration, G2 Goldfields
Leads the team
Appointed G2’s Vice President Exploration for the Guiana Shield in April 2020. He led the program that took Oko-Ghanie from greenfields discovery to an NI 43-101 resource of about 3.5Moz, 1.6Moz Indicated and 1.9Moz Inferred, within roughly five years. Before G2 he ran the mine exploration geology team at Guyana Goldfields, owner of the Aurora gold mine.
A discovery team, not a single hire
Depth
The group includes geologists who held senior roles in the discovery and resource growth at Oko-Ghanie and at the Karouni and Aurora gold mines, two of Guyana’s producing greenstone gold operations.
An in-country network that already works
Logistics
The team brings established relationships with local crews, contractors and service providers. In the Guyanese interior, keeping crews in the field through access and wet-season constraints is often what decides how fast a program moves.
Finlay Goodwin stays on the ground
Continuity
Liberty’s Exploration Manager continues to run exploration in the field, now supported by people who have mapped, sampled and drilled the adjoining system.
Why this matters for Oko North
Liberty’s central question is whether the gold in its artisanal workings comes from a hard-rock source beneath them. That is exactly the kind of target this team has already turned into ounces next door.
They drilled beneath historic workings and found a deposit
Precedent
G2’s Oko Main Zone was defined by drilling a 2km deformation zone marked by historic pits and shafts, and returned a high-grade resource at 8.63 g/t Indicated. Liberty’s Oko North carries extensive artisanal workings that have never been drilled beneath.
They know what the mineralisation looks like at surface
Recognition
Reading the surface expression of an orogenic gold system in deeply weathered tropical terrain is a learned skill. This team has learnt it on the same greenstone belt, on the adjoining ground.
Oko North abuts their former ground
Proximity
Liberty’s Oko North block directly abuts the former G2 ground, now held by G Mining Ventures, in proximity to the New Oko Discovery, which returned 60m at 5.9 g/t.
The early evidence already points to structure
Fit
Liberty’s first rock chips returned gold in bedrock across four host rocks, peaking at 2.32 g/t, and the gold-bearing samples cluster near the mapped shear zone. Structurally controlled targets are this team’s speciality.
A shorter path from target to drill rig
Speed
Liberty expects the team to materially shorten the pathway from target generation to drilling. Systematic soil sampling is already underway.
Oko South gets experienced eyes
Scale
The southern block, interpreted as the southern continuation of the Oko trend, has not yet been sampled. It will now be explored by people who know what that trend looks like where it is mineralised.
Explored, mined and now discovered
In two months Liberty has assembled Guiana Shield experience at every level, from the board to the field.
| Who | Role at Liberty | Guiana Shield experience |
|---|---|---|
| Steve Letwin | Non-executive director | Ten years as CEO of IAMGOLD, operator of the Rosebel mine in Suriname |
| Travis Schwertfeger | Non-executive director | Six years leading exploration in Guyana; brought Barrick and Nordgold onto Guyanese ground |
| Boaz Wade and team | Exploration, in country | Led the Oko-Ghanie discovery to 3.5Moz on the ground adjoining Oko North |
| Finlay Goodwin | Exploration Manager | Running Liberty’s field program |
One has mined the Guiana Shield, one has explored it, and the newest arrivals have discovered gold in this district. For a company with no drilling yet, that is an unusually complete technical bench.
What happens next
Immediate mobilisation
Now
Reconnaissance mapping and sampling across both projects.
Soils and geophysics
Underway
Systematic soil sampling and geophysical surveys across priority areas to define coherent gold-in-soil anomalies and refine the structural interpretation of the Oko trend.
Trenching and drill targets
Next
Follow-up trenching of priority anomalies and definition of targets ahead of Liberty’s maiden drilling program.
